8 ways to express emotions:

1. Get you down

If something 'gets you down', it makes you feel unhappy.
اداس کرنا 

E.g. i) This uncertainty is beginning to get me down.
یہ بے یقینی مجھے اداس کر رہی ہے 

ii) The way everybody keeps complaining really gets me down
جس طرح سب شکایت کر رہے ہیں، میں اداس ہو رہا ھوں 

2. Get to you

If somebody or something makes you feel upset or unhappy, they 'get to' you. This is an informal expression.
اگر کوئی چیز یا کوئی شخص آپ کو غصّہ دلاتا ہو یا اداس کرتا ہو یا مایوس کرتا ہو 

E.g. i) The way he whistles all the time when we are working really gets to me.
جب ہم کام کرتے رہتے ہیں تو جس طرح وہ سیٹی بجاتا ہے، مجھے بہت غصّہ آتا ہے 

ii) The heat is really getting to me. We need air conditioning.
گرمی سے میری حالت خراب ہو رہی ہے ، ھمے 

3. Tears you apart
بہت اداس کر دینا ،غمگین کر دینا 

If something makes you very unhappy, it 'tears you apart'.

E.g. i) It tears me apart to know that I lost that job because of my own stupidity.
میں بہت غمگین ہوتا ھوں یہ جان کر کہ میں نے اپنی جاب کھو دی اپنی بیوقوفی سے 

ii) It would tear me apart if something I said made you leave.
اگر میرے کچھ کہنے سے تم جاؤگے تو مجھے بہت غم ہوگا 

4. Cheer up
خوش ہونا 

If you 'cheer up', you start to feel happier.

E.g. i) Cheer up. Things are not so bad.
خوش ہو جاؤ ، حالات اتنے بھی خراب نہیں 

ii) I bought a new iPod to cheer myself up.
میں نے آئ پوڈ خریدا ہے اپنے آپ کو خوش رکھنے 

5. Perk up
خوش ہونا 

If you 'perk up', you suddenly become happier, cheerful or more energetic. It is also possible to 'perk someone up'.

E.g. i) Your visit really made him perk up.
آپ کے آنے سے وہ خوش ہو گیا 

ii) He was being miserable but he perked up when Mary arrived.
وہ اداس تھا لیکن ماری آنے سے وہ خوش ہو گیا 

6. Brighten up
خوش ہونا 

If you 'brighten up', you suddenly look or feel happier.

E.g. i) She brightened up when she heard the good news.
وہ خبر سن کر خوش ہوگئی 

ii) You need to brighten up. Your long face is putting the customers off.
تمہے بحال رہنا چاہئے ، تمہارا اداس چہرہ دیکھ کر گراہک خوش نہیں ہوتے ہیں 

7. Liven up
پرجوش ہونا 

If you 'liven up', you become more energetic or cheerful. You can also 'liven up' a place, event or person.

E.g. i) You need to liven up a bit. You're so miserable it is making everybody feel unhappy.
تمہے خوش رہنا چاہئے۔ تم اداس رہنے سے سب خوش نہیں ہے 

ii) We need to liven up the party. Everyone looks bored.
تمہے پارٹی میں جوش ڈالنا چاہئے ، سب بیزار ہو رہے ہیں 

8. Calm down
پرسکون ہو جاؤ
